Character deals with the matters of the heart-the inner you, not the outer you. The foundation of a person is their character.
As parents you may ask, Why is it important for parents to build 'Character' in their children?

Your children need to know within their hearts what is 'right' and what is 'wrong'. Children who have been taught 'character' by mom and dad automatically know 'right' from 'wrong' and have the will to practice what is the right thing to do regardless of what it would cost them.
It is pertinent to note that the marriage is blissful, Christian-like, and long lasting when there is a good character trait instilled the minds, hearts and soul of these young ones by their parents. In so doing, the home is peaceful.

Children Make Right Decisions. When we instill in our children the very necessary "moral and value" system that will build character and discipline, they are enabled to make "right choices" in their lives and have the will to practice them even when pressured by outside influences, namely peer pressure. And so with good character they develop from home, they cannot always be enslaved by that adage that says, "If you cannot beat them, join them". Fact is, they will run away when they come face to face with such pressure from their peers.
Children Have Respect For Themselves And For Others. Because they had good character groomed on them early in life, they cannot but extend a modicum amount of respect to everyone with whom they come in contact. To some extent, parents play a great role in building the character of respect in their children. Respect them. Show them respect. Teach them respect and earn their respect. Do not shout, scream or yell at them. Children watch you, they want to be like you. Remember also...children are just little people, extensions of what we ourselves once were, they don't know any better...it is up to mum and dad to teach them so they will know better from your example.
Once the children are taught this, they in turn will pass it on to others.
Children With Good Character Have The Ability To Forgive. Good character instilled in the child enables him to easily forgive others when offended by them.
It is wise to know that children with contrary character hardly forgive because he was never taught forgiveness at home. Perhaps he grew up in a home where fighting and quarrels were the order of the day. And so getting into tantrums every now and then were as normal as having a choice of meal for the day. But the child with good character developed in him from home has the attributes of forgiveness, patience, goodness and love for his fellow brother.
Indeed, parents should act as role models to their children for they (parents) are a mirror through which their children depend for their vision.
